Quite recently, I’ve been thinking about my future projects for school and, more importantly, the world beyond. Mostly, this entails thinking about my portfolio. While I do believe that a proper print portfolio is just as important as it ever was, the increasingly prevalent digital scene really got me thinking: Could I make an intriguing and informative portfolio using Flash that would be similar to my hard copy portfolio?

I know it’s hardly necessary or required, but I do think that a portfolio done in Flash would be interesting. I know I probably won’t be able to finish it in the time left in class, but I could at least use what I learn as a spring board for the future.

Flash is trickey because, while something like 98% of all Internet users have Flash installed and active, there’s a significant portion of that population which does not allow their browser to view Flash sites or purposefully avoids them. Therefore, Flash projects I do in the future will need to use centrally-served information which can also be called by other non-Flash site setups that don’t run on flash. These could be product showcases, portfolios or demonstration/action sites, to name a few options.

I would like to have a professional website someday, and since the field I’m going into is closely related to graphic design I feel I need to at least know the basics of using the program. For now I envision some sort of spinning graphic on the page.

I think doing a portfolio would be cool. I saw one that was done by one of our peers and it was pretty interesting. Also, I would like to re-create the website for our local hockey association use Flash. I think it’s going to be a very useful tool for me once I figure it out.

For my project, I will need to use flash to be able to create a page that has a player of some kind to show footage of my son’s football games.

One of the things that I enjoyed the most when I worked with flash in high school was creating animations and cartoon shorts. While I would have to review the workings of flash, I wouldnt mind doing another short animation piece. I dont know if I would use this in a professional mannor, though perhaps creating an opening scene on a website could be applied?

Although I dislike Flash, I am more than willing to learn and use it, I do play Flash games on occasion, and would like to learn to use it to create Flash games.

Flash may be needed if I want to develop an interactive portfolio, although it could also be a bit much, depending on what is going to go into it.

I would like to work on an interactive portfolio.

I would use flash for my on-line portfolio, however i know the limitations of working with flash (mainly that not all browsers have flash capabilities and not everyone is particularly fond of flash since it is pretty ostentatious). But i think that a simple and tasteful flash animation that is short and serves a purpose would highlight rather than distract and could be useful to my online portfolio.

I’d like to be able to use flash to display my portfolio online. This won’t be feasible at this point given my skill level, so maybe making some of my designs into a more animated form would be fun for my flash project.

I’m trying to create a photo album flash site. I am starting out basic and hopefully be able to upgrade it as my skill grows.

I’d like to use Flash to digitize my senior portfolio, and for this project, the cover page I posted for the information design assignment. I’d like to create movement by creating paint strokes on the page, which is the basis, and liquify it, like I did in Photoshop with my original design, and then possibly create movement of ripples. I’m not sure if all of this is possible, but I’ll be keeping an eye out for tutorials that might help me accomplish this.

Flash will help me make the message concrete that the cover of my portfolio represents my professional identity based on the colors used for different sections inside of my portfolio, which look like paint strokes.

I don’t really hope to do anything in Flash, considering my general opinion of it… But, since I have to:

I will be (well, I’ve now finished this) creating a project to show a number of pictures, along with music, of my favorite place in the world. However, I don’t need Flash for this project – there is very little Flash can do, that something else can’t do. I could easily use a movie-making program for this. However, given that the Internet is an easy way to distribute the file, Flash will be handy in letting me create a swf file embedded in a html document.
